If you’re looking to enhance your ATV, adding extra storage space can be a game-changer. Not only are ATVs a fun way to spend a day, but they also have practical everyday uses, like yard work and navigating tough terrain. To accommodate your storage needs, there are numerous options available.
Whether you prefer front mount, rear mount, storage boxes, storage bags, or even storage boxes with an additional seat for a passenger, you can find the perfect solution for you. These storage options provide convenience and versatility, allowing you to make the most out of your ATV.
However, if you just want more storage space, don’t need another seat, and don’t want to look any further. Then I suggest looking at this Plano Rear Mount ATV Storage Box (link to Amazon). It’s a straightforward storage box with plenty of space and easily mounts to most ATV racks. This model also has a foam seal to help keep out dirt, mud, and other things you encounter on the trail. It’s sturdy, well made, and has good reviews everywhere I’ve found it being sold. If you just want a lot of storage space at a good price, this ATV storage box is the one you want.

What should you consider for ATV storage boxes and bags?
To make an informed decision when choosing ATV storage boxes and bags, it’s crucial to consider your specific needs and preferences. With a wide range of options available in the market, having a clear understanding of your requirements will help you select the most suitable storage solution for your ATV. The following tips will help you:
Material
You want to make sure the storage box is made out of material that is durable enough for your uses. Most storage boxes will be made out of some type of plastic, which is usually fine for storage purposes. But also check the latches or straps materials. Find something with durable latches like hardened plastic or rubber straps, something that won’t break easily the first time you go to use it.
Also, keep in mind the cover material and construction. If you ever want to strap things down on top of your storage box, I suggest looking for a storage box with a double wall lid or a metal cover. That way the lid won’t crack from stacking and strapping things down on it. If the lid cracks, water can get in easily and your stuff will be at the mercy of the elements.
The ATV storage bags are made out of fabric of some kind, so I suggest looking for something waterproof and durable. If the bag you like doesn’t say it’s waterproof, you should at least spray some fabric waterproofer on it just in case.
Capacity
Look for something with the capacity you need to hold everything you want to bring with you. Don’t waste your money buying the cool-looking storage box only to find out it can’t hold everything you wanted it to.
When we go out, we like to bring lunch, drinks, a change of clothes, and other things we will need depending on the trip that day. Also, don’t forget tools and emergency items you should have on your ATV at all times (like a tire plug kit).
If you plan on going camping, you will need more space for extra food and supplies. There are safer ways to store fuel on your ATV than in a storage box, but keep in mind you’ll need space for plenty of water.
Weather Proof
This one might seem obvious, but you don’t want all your gear getting soaked if it starts to rain a little. Not to mention the terrain you riding through. ATVs will fling up mud and water if you pass through a stream or creek.
Most storage boxes will have a cover with a lip that overhangs the rest of the box. This helps keep water out of your gear and might be enough for you, but I still like having some kind of seal it just puts my mind at ease.
Get something with some kind of seal, either a foam seal or rubber seal depending on how well sealed you want your storage box. Spray fabric storage bags with a waterproofer like I mentioned above, and that’s about all you can do for those.
Keep in mind, that even with the waterproof spray applied, water can still seep into most storage bags. If all you have is a fabric storage bag and you know there might be rain or wet terrain, consider strapping a tarp down over the bag with some bungee cords.
ATV Storage Bags
If you need an ATV storage bag, then I suggest this Ogio ATV Camo Bag (link to Amazon). I like this bag because it holds its shape even when empty, it just makes it easier to load or unload it with your gear. The amount of space is great too, and it can be mounted to the front or rear of your ATV. This link is to the camo bag, but it comes in black and gray as well.
This ATV cargo bag does have a seal to protect your gear from the elements, and the reviews are great everywhere I can find it being sold. To use it you simply secure it to your ATV rack using the attached straps on the bottom of the cargo bag. Then you can access the main compartment by unlatching the two buckles. If you’re looking for a durable, easy-to-use ATV cargo bag, that will last you years to come, this Ogio ATV Cargo Bag is worth checking out.
ATV Storage Boxes
Maybe you don’t want a storage bag, but instead, you want a solid, rigid, well-built, waterproof tough box to mount on your ATV. That’s how I am anyway, I like quality stuff that won’t break and I don’t want to have to worry about bags getting wet or my gear being ruined.
For a good ATV storage box I’m sticking with my recommendation from above, the Plano Rear Mount ATV Storage Box. Now it’s not the top-of-the-line best storage box ever made, but for what you get for the money, I think this one offers great value.
If you really need top-of-the-line best of the best, check out this Black Widow ATV Locking Cargo Box (link to Amazon). It’s twice the price as the Plano but comes with every upgrade feature you could think of. Everything is well built on this storage box and they didn’t skip the small stuff, there’s even red reflectors on the box for increased safety.
This box mounts to your ATV using U-bolts, so you know it’s secure, no need to worry about that. There’s a built-in cushioned backrest and the box locks to keep your gear secure. This really is a great storage box, no doubt about that. But for the money, I’ll stick with the Plano.
ATV Storage Box With Seat
Getting a storage box with a built-in lounger is a great way to bring more people with you on the trails. It’s so much better than just having them sit on the rack too. Plus you get the added benefit of extra storage space. A box with a seat like this is great for getting people out to a campsite with you or something like that. However, I don’t recommend using this on an ATV you plan on racing, riding fast, or doing tricks with.
I recommend the Camco Black Boar ATV Storage Box and Lounger found here on Amazon. The seat is well made and comfortable, for your passenger’s sake, and the box stores a good amount of gear. Everything you should need including emergency tools and equipment will fit in this box comfortably. Everywhere I have been able to find this box being sold, it has gotten great reviews.
What I like about this cargo box is the quick and easy bungee straps used to hold the lid down. They make it super convenient whenever I need to get to the gear in the box, but you can also lock the box if you plan on being away from it for a while.
Camco also makes a great front storage box that’s also worth checking out if you want even more storage space. They also make ATV mountable gun cases and other well-built tough boxes like that which all get great reviews, and I’ve always been happy with the storage boxes from Camco.
